Frontier Wars is a storytelling camp at the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in Canberra taking place around the ANZAC Centenary (19-26 April 2015). Throughout the week we have been listening to stories about colonisation (the first war this country ever saw) and sharing knowledge across cultures and geographies.
The ANZAC Peace Vigil was a moving event tonight, the eve of ANZAC Day. We started from the top of Mount Ainslie with a traditional First Nations 'challenge' (allowing men to be on the women's mountain) and smoking ceremony. Then, lit entirely by lanterns and accompanied by clap sticks, we walked down to the War Memorial, sharing personal reflections on the wars of old and waging peace for our shared future.
These are a few shots from the night (more shots from the preparations are on the flickrset).
Join us tomorrow for the fifth annual Frontier Wars March x
